Investment Fund

GIC has an investment fund of $18,000. Every semester, members employ a multi-faceted investment strategy involving quantitative and qualitative analysis to produce investment pitches to construct a diversified portfolio across the investment groups. The unique layout of these investment groups mirror the format of financial institutions, promoting exposure over several asset classes for the members.

Groups are structured with a Desk Head who oversees prospective investments and facilitates team education. Following each pitch, active members vote on whether or not the investment should be included in our portfolio. All profits are reinvested into the fund or returned to members in the form of events and investing capital.

Small Cap Equities

This desk focuses on finding value plays among smaller public companies. This gives the portfolio exposure to lesser known and higher growth sectors.

Large Cap Equities

This desk follows near-term market trends and sentiment to find attractive investments among more stable, established companies.

Emerging Market Equities

Emerging Markets will contribute up to 70% of global economic growth and the desk capitalizes on the opportunity through investments in emerging market instruments

Fixed Income

This desk is focused exclusively on US high yield and distressed debt with a large focus on member education on the instrument

Power and Energy

This desk provides the club with the opportunity to learn about and invest in the oil and gas market while also increasing the portfolio's exposure to the rapidly growing renewables sector

Team of the Semester

Each semester, desks are evaluated based on their pitch performance, club participation and team involvement. The team that performs best on all three factors is awarded the
'Team of the Semester' award. The winning team gets a cash prize.
